Lepethida "Wanderer, be you the one that crossed the veil without Drinal's Cloak? "

Lepethida "Glory to the Wurm Mother! Your timing couldn't be better! News has just reached me - The Harrowing Horde have been found in a cave on our island."
"They're a threat here?"
Lepethida "They could quickly grow to be, if we allowed them to, Kogmaw. We have been fighting their advance across the Vesspyr Isles, but this is the first I have heard of them on Daarspire."
"How have you been fighting them?"
Lepethida "Long had we been able to keep them at bay with claw and tooth, but their numbers began to grow and their attacks became ceaseless. News reached us of other lands within Ethernere being lost to the Horde."
"What did you do?"
Lepethida "We employed some ancient arcanum. It appeared successful as it halted their advance. It even allowed us to recover a few islands, in time. But now they threaten us from below! "
"I'll clear out the cave for you."
Lepethida "I hope it doesn't come to that, Kogmaw. Let us first apply our proven solution. Seek Savtek, the accomplished animist. He's somewhere on this island. Tell him of the Horde in the cave."
"I'll find Savtek, Lepethida."

Savtek "You've found my secret little hole in the world, ruffian err... adventure seeker. So, tell me, why have you come to Savtek?"

Savtek "Ah, that is troubling! Such a confined space will make it difficult to send in some of our own, or the usual sentinel."
"That's your arcane solution?"
Savtek "Sentinels? Yes. They have proven to be quite effective when facing the Harrowing Horde. And when they do fall, they provide no sustenance or support for the Horde."
"They don't become part of the Horde?"
Savtek "Precisely. I must speak with Lepethida about this and prepare my spell casting, but we can't let the Horde gain any further ground."
"I'll keep them busy within the cave, Savtek. Don't worry about that!"

Lepethida "The children of Veeshan are just as susceptible to falling to the Horde as others within Ethernere. Thankfully, the sentinels work, and had stopped the overwhelming tide of beasts from taking a hold of Daarspire."
"Only to find out that they are in a cave, nearby."
Lepethida "Yes! They have taken root beneath our very claws! What's done is done, but we cannot allow them to flourish. Will you return to the cave and cull the attacking skirth?"
"I'll slay a great many skirth for you."

"There are much fewer of them on the island now!"
Lepethida "We should have uncovered the Harrowing Horde's presence within the cave sooner, Kogmaw."
"We're dealing with them now."
Lepethida "True, though I now see that there were signs of their touch. The rippling etherflow were previously peaceful, but something had recently stirred them. It started with just a few, but now they are all aggressive."
"You think the nearby Horde are to blame?"
Lepethida "Yes, the Horde affect their surroundings in a drastic way. The soil around them is sapped of all nourishment, the flora withers, and the air becomes oppressive. What else could be behind such a change? Surely, their proximity is no coincidence."
"Probably not, but I should look into it."
Lepethida "That would do us all good, drakinvess. Gather some of the waters of the etherflow within an amphora, then return to me. You'll find a proper amphora within Falinpol."
"I'll be back with the water soon!"

Harla Dar "I enjoyed the high elf. He could have listened to every story I had to tell, from the Age of Scale to the Fall of the Pedestal. An earnest listener."

"It took a little time to earn an audience with Harla Dar, but yes."

"That's a good way of putting it."
Lepethdia "The waters are not clear yet though. The blessed water from the amphora must be poured back into the etherflow pool. It should counteract the Horde's corruptive touch, if that is indeed the cause."
"I'll pour the blessed water into the pool."

Lepethdia "We know of three other islands where the sentinels are currently fighting the Horde: Nuthshae, Suthshae, and Blightscale. And we had thought that they had been contained to them, but now..."
"Now you question that."
Lepethdia "And I have grown concerned about the state of the other islands, Kogmaw. If this could happen here, the Harrowing Horde could be establishing secret sanctuaries elsewhere within Vesspyr Isles, too!"
"That is true."
Lepethdia "I have sent other capable kin to investigate some of the other islands, but there is one that I would like you to explore - Veiled Thessk."
"You want me to see if the Horde are hiding on that island?"
Lepethdia "Yes, it must be searched in its entirety, including the underside. I know that no sign of the Horde will go unnoticed under your expert scrutiny."
"If the Horde are hiding on the Veiled Thessk, I'll find them!"

Savtek "I require draconic soulsparks. They are the heart of the draconic soullights that skim along the Daarspire trees."

"I would gladly praise her!"
Harla Dar "That pleases me greatly! Anyone can seek the strength of her wings, whether we are children of other gods, or had turned our backs upon her, previously."
"We're not talking about me anymore, are we?"
Harla Dar "Astute observation. I had been swayed from my path of leading others in her worship for a time, but after passing into Ethernere the scales of mourning and deception were removed from my eyes."
"You experienced an enlightenment."
Harla Dar "Precisely. One that often blesses us in the afterlife. I saw the worlds and my life with a newfound clarity. Veeshan had given me a gift with no equal. I just wish it hadn't cost my life."
"So, you're not angry about your death then?"
Harla Dar "There's no reason to be. I look back upon the mortals that valiantly fought me within the Temple of Scale as having done me a favor. I hold no ill will towards them, in fact, I would thank them if given the chance."
"An interesting stance, I admit."
Harla Dar "I sense you have not experienced her clarity, child. That must be why you feel so different to me, as if you are out of place."
"Actually, I don't belong here. I haven't died yet."
Harla Dar "Poor child, denial clouds your mind. You have not yet faced your own death. Allow me to help you along your path, as her priestess. Think of it as humoring an elder, if you need."
"How would you help me?"
Harla Dar "By granting you a meaningful revelation. Though, it will require some work on your part. Make a paste of talon root within the blessed basin near me, then consume it."
"Some talon root mash, coming right up!"

"Hail, Harla Dar"
Harla Dar "What revelations did you experience, Lest? Have you come to terms with your death?"
"My experience had nothing to do with me, Harla. I saw you within the Temple of Scale!"
Harla Dar "Then you witnessed a dark time. I had not expected your revelation would pertain to me, but if that is what the Wurm Mother chose to show you, I must accept it."
"You were a Priestess of the Awakened."
Harla Dar "Veeshan must want me to face my past. Bless the Mother! She set you on this path to help me."
"How did you become a Priestess for the Awakened?"
Harla Dar "Long, long ago, during the Elder Age, my mate, Jaled Dar, led a force of like-minded dragons out of our ancestral home of Velious to establish a new power base on the continent of Kunark."
"The Ring of Scale, right?"
Harla Dar "Yes. Our daughter, Phara, accompanied her father. She had always been so devoted to him. I can't say the same for myself. I felt my mate was wrong in his criticism of the Claws of Veeshan."
"So you stayed behind?"
Harla Dar "I remained in Velious with our young son, Fraka Dar. I was living out my days, hiding my sorrow over being abandoned by both mate and daughter, while taking joy from watching my son grow. Until that too was taken from me."
"What happened?"
Harla Dar "During the Age of Turmoil, Fraka, my precious treasure, disappeared. I assumed he had left to follow his sister, who had taken over the Ring of Scale following Jaled's death. But the truth was more devastating!"
"He hadn't joined the Ring of Scale?"
Harla Dar "Evidence was found that he had been killed by Zlandicar, a fellow child of Veeshan! He had eaten him."
"I'm sorry."
Harla Dar "My spirit shattered. The days held no meaning, and the nights only haunted me with memories. I hid myself in the ice caves of Velious, where it was my intention to wither and die."
"..."
Harla Dar "There I remained, wrapped in anguish and sorrow. I can't tell you how long I languished. I only know that was where he found me."
"Who found you?"
Harla Dar "None other than Kerafyrm, The Awakened. His words of hope and comfort coaxed me. Playing on my emotions, he told me he could bring my departed family back from the afterlife."
"That couldn't have been true."
Harla Dar "But it was what I desperately wanted to hear. I gladly followed him to the Overrealm, my dedication to the Claws of Veeshan having long been forgotten. He held me now."
"That's where the forces of Norrath faced you. "
Harla Dar "Released me! They destroyed his bonds over me, and delivered me to Ethernere. It was here where I was able to see Kerafyrm's manipulation."
"With Veeshan's Clarity."
Harla Dar "I realized he never intended to resurrect my child or mate, even if he had possessed the power to. He was using me, stringing me along with visions of Fraka and Jaled."
"And now you're here, a Priestess of Veeshan."
Harla Dar "Just as I had been in ages past. It was one of the reasons why I had been dedicated to the Claws of Veeshan, and had not gone off with my mate, when he founded the Ring of Scale."
"Oh, I had not known that."
Harla Dar "I devoted this isle to the Wurm Mother, giving the eternal brood a place to worship her. That is until it was almost lost to the Horde invasion. By the time we had won it back they had destroyed Veeshan's altar. "
"It looks like you've reconstructed it."
Harla Dar "You are absolutely right, Lest. But the pieces of the original altar remain scattered across Veeshenna Tol. Return them to me that I may properly dispose of them."
"You'll have the altar pieces shortly."

Harla Dar "You are weighed down by the pieces of Veeshan's altar. This is good news!"
"Yeah, I was able to find them all."
Harla Dar "Once again, Veeshan has blessed me! For without you, we would not have been able to cleanse this land for the Wurm Mother."
"I have been glad to assist."
Harla Dar "There is another renowned dragon, who has also experienced Veeshan's Clarity since arriving in Ethernere - Wuoshi."
"Wuoshi has also been enlightened?"
Harla Dar "Yes. Once, a power-crazed dragon, desperately clutching to an over-lived role, he came to Ethernere, full of anger. He claims to have experienced the clarity, yet he has not returned to the Mother."
You say to Harla Dar, "What do you mean?"
Harla Dar "He still clings to Growth, much as he did in Velious and later in Faydwer. That could leave him and his isle susceptible to the Harrowing Horde!"
"Maybe he is being influenced by them!?"
Harla Dar "An alarming prospect, Lest. He will not respond well to a personal inquiry from me. For the good of the Vesspyr Isles, will you speak with him on Aeterna Gardens?"
"I certainly will."

"Hail, Wuoshi"
Wuoshi "That was creative thinking, child. You have earned an audience with me."
"Some of your fellow dragons are concerned that the Harrowing Horde may be on Aeterna Gardens, and influencing you."
Wuoshi "Ha! There is no threat here. Do these "fellow dragons" have a name, little one? "
"Harla Dar."
Wuoshi "Harla! I should have guessed. No, no. The crazed beasts of the Horde have been unable to affect the flora on Aeterna Gardens, because I have been here strengthening it with the blessings of Growth."
"Harla mentioned that you remain faithful to Growth."
Wuoshi "With pride! Harla just cannot understand how a child of Veeshan can find other deities worthy of our worship, partially due to her past. Do not hold it against her."
"I'll try not to, Wuoshi."

Harla Dar "Have you spoken to Wuoshi, Lest?"
"He has not been influenced by the Horde. He remains devoted to Growth out of his own convictions."
Harla Dar "I am both relieved and saddened by this news. Thank you for your help."
"You're welcome."
Harla Dar "I wish to do something for you now, Lest."
"You're going to help me?"
Harla Dar "Yes, I am compelled to create something special for you, to help ease your transition to this existence."
"Keep talking."
Harla Dar "All it requires from you is gathering the fragile stalactite gems that grow on the underside of Little Veeshenna."
"That'll be easy!"

Harla Dar "Lest, I am under attack! Battle with me!"

Harla Dar "Your assistance was much appreciated, Lest."
"Who were those guys?"
Harla Dar "Not all of Veeshan's children here, in Ethernere, are anti-Kerafyrm."
"Ah! They're some of the Wayward Dracurians still loyal to the Awakened."
Harla Dar "Sadly, yes. Some of my kin who followed him in life of their own choosing, still do."
"Like who?"
Harla Dar "Lord Vyemm. He still carries a grudge against me, due to his failures in the Overrealm. He blames me for them."
"Why would he do that?"
Harla Dar "He and I were at odds due to his self-gratifying interpretation of the plans Kerafyrm had laid out for us. Mine was the voice of patience. As the Awakened Priestess my voice held weight amongst the army. It ended up splintering the forces."
"Giving the Norrathian forces a fighting chance."
Harla Dar "I am alarmed by his sudden brazenness. I want to take this fight back to him, but I am afraid that this is part of a cunning plan to lure me away or entrap me in the Droumlunds. Lord Vyemm has a conniving mind for battle."
"I'll take the battle to Lord Vyemm on your behalf!"

"Hail, Harla Dar"
Harla Dar "Thank the Mother, you return to me!"
"Harla, you will not believe the news!"
Harla Dar "Were you able to defeat Lord Vyemm?"
"No, he escaped me, but while I was trying to track him down, I found your son, Fraka Dar!"
Harla Dar "I warned you of this, Lest. Lord Vyemm's cunning knows no bounds. What you found was a trap set for me. You have proven he is trying to lure me away from Veeshenna Tol!"
"I don't think this was a trick."
Harla Dar "No, I will not be manipulated by his memory, ever again. I appreciate your sentiment, but I must insist you not speak of it, again."
"It won't stop me from investigating it, myself."

"Hail, Fraka Dar"
Fraka Dar "Who's there? You smell... different! You do not belong in my roost!"
"My name is Lest."
Fraka Dar "You do not belong here!"
Fraka Dar "You would have killed me, if I had not stopped you! You don't play well, do you?"
"You attacked me. Wait, what do you mean, killed you!?"
Fraka Dar "If you hurt someone too much they die. Didn't anyone teach you that? I've seen it happen."
" I am aware. Are you talking about an ethereal death?"
Fraka Dar "Ether... I don't know what you are talking about. Dead is dead. I don't want to be dead!"
"But you're already dead."
Fraka Dar "No. Dead things do not talk. I am talking with you."
"You died on Norrath, and now you're here in Ethernere, like your mother."
Fraka Dar "You don't even know my mother! She abandoned me, just like my father and sister. You know nothing! Lord Vyemm told me all about it."
"Lord Vyemm told you that?"
Fraka Dar "Yes, he tells me many stories! Most of them are exciting, full of battles, and magic, and whelps! Though some make me sad, or angry."
"I wouldn't believe everything you hear."
Fraka Dar "I don't hear anything anymore. Now he just sends those different kin to feed me. They never spend time with me. Wait! Are you one of those interfering whelps of lesser gods, who goes around killing and stealing?"
"I guess you could say that."
Fraka Dar "Really!? That's exciting! Wait... You're just making stuff up. You don't know my mother, and you don't know about dead. Adventuring whelps would know stuff."
"No, really I am, and I can prove it!"
Fraka Dar "Okay. Bring me back aerakyn invoker or realmstalker amulets as proof! They're very shiny!"
"I will. You'll see, Fraka."

Fraka Dar "Who's there? Oh! It is my adventuring whelp friend! Have you the shiny invoker amulets?"
"Here they are. Now do you believe me?"
Fraka Dar "These are so pretty! Look at the fine detail. Oh yes, I do believe you! I do!" (真好哄耶...)
"Well, there's that then."
Fraka Dar "You must have seen all sorts of lands and all sorts of creatures! Have you seen the terrible ice giants? What about the blue dwarves? I'd love to see a forest city of elves! Have you?"
"Slow down, Fraka! I've seen all that and more, but now is not the time."
Fraka Dar "Why not? I have been here a very long time. And I want to hear a story! Tell me a good one!"
"Wouldn't you rather go on your own adventures?"
Fraka Dar "Oh, yes! But no... I never leave my roost. It is not safe for me out there. Lord Vyemm has told me. Oh, what would he do if he found out!?"
"Do you mean that you are not allowed to leave?"
Fraka Dar "No. I just don't want to. Though I would like to see something other than these walls. *Yaawwwn* Maybe after my nap."
"You just woke up. There must be some arcane leash, or spell being used on you."

• Vizzeren "What brings you back to me, living one?"
  "I've returned for the arcanum vision elixir. I believe that it may help me free Fraka Dar."
  Vizzeren "You have found Fraka Dar within Vesspyr? The Priestess will be overjoyed! Yes, take it, Lest."
  "Thank you."

Fraka Dar "Who's there? Oh! It is my adventuring friend! That was a good nap!"
"You're feeling better, Fraka?"
Fraka Dar "I am invigorated, my little friend! I want to leave this place! Why have I not done so before now? I am a mighty Dar!" (好棒棒!)
"Great! Follow me, Fraka! I'll lead you to your mother."
Fraka Dar "So, she is near, and she did miss me? You were not lying?"
"Not at all, Fraka. Trust me!"
Fraka Dar "Show me the way to my mother, I beg you! I don't wish to stay here any longer!"

Harla Dar "You brought me my son, Lest. Even when I had not believed you. Veeshan has rewarded me this day, like none other! I owe you more than I could ever repay."

"Hail, Wuoshi"
Wuoshi "I'm glad to see your return - my garden is open to you! In exchange, I only ask that you sit and speak a while with me."
"It would be an honor, Wuoshi. What shall we talk about?"
Wuoshi "Harla Dar is frustrated, because even with the clarity that Veeshan has offered me, I do not see things through her lens. Veeshan is dear to my heart, have no doubt, but Growth is what allows us to change and bring beauty to others. Tunare teaches us to cultivate the garden of ourselves."
"You may be the first dragon I've met that doesn't hold Veeshan first in reverence."
Wuoshi "It is true, but it is not with zeal that I see the world. Instead, I have learned from my past mistakes. When something is allowed to grow unchecked, it must necessarily sacrifice other things and take that space for itself. There is only so much room in the world, in the cosmos, in ourselves."
"I assume that was the lesson from Lesser Faydark?"
Wuoshi "It was one of them, certainly. I choose now to leave room for other things to grow, to treat each flower with equal measure. Were Veeshan to return tomorrow, I would enter her service willingly and immediately. I would be honored to take my place at her claw, but I would also retain my love and devotion for Tunare. Equal things in equal measure. Veeshan would understand."
"Her claws marked Norrath, but it would not have evolved as it did without Growth. "
Wuoshi "Yes, you understand! When something is allowed to grow out of control, it will destroy others to make room. Zeal is no different than the Tunaric mantraps in my garden -€“ it grows without consideration for what is lost. This talk has been good for me. Would you like to see an example of what I speak?"
"I would, this place is beautiful, I would not mind tramping around."
Wuoshi "Excellent! Those mantraps do actually need attention. Would you mind terribly weeding them out so that the garden can grow in peace? Elsewise, they will take over everything, and then fight amongst themselves."
"This is something I can do. I'll be back when I'm done, Wuoshi."

Wuoshi " You have returned. Has the mantrap problem been resolved?"
"It has, they will choke the garden no more... at least, until they grow back."
Wuoshi "As they should, the cycle gives us comfort. You surprise me, Lest... it has been a long time since anyone has taken my words seriously, and not dismissed them out-of-hand."
"Well, I can't speak for anyone else, but I am not a dragon and don't speak from their perspective. "
Wuoshi "And see, the value of Norrath's children. Like this garden, you have grown and spread to the four corners. You and your kind are much different than the First, and your experience and perspective is important. Again, this is something that many of my kind denigrates, to their loss."
"You honor me with your words, Wuoshi."
Wuoshi "It is not honor that I bestow upon you, it is truth. And like your ancestors that spread amongst the world, I ask that you spread Growth amongst this place. Veiled Thessk cries out for life, for Growth. It is ready to receive the seed that will take it to the next stages of its life. Will you help?"
"I am at your service."

Wuoshi "And so, I assume that you have sent the seeds of this place to a new home in which to grow and spread their leaves?"
"I have Wuoshi, within time, Veiled Thessk will live in the shadows of green."
Wuoshi "This makes me happy, Lest. We do not grow in isolation, and often Growth requires a tender hand to help it along. Like my discussions with you, your words push me along a path I would not otherwise take – I grow from them, for better or worse."
"Life feeds life? "
Wuoshi "It does! A garden may be planted, but without an intelligent hand to nuture it, it may grow wild, fruit will wither on the vine, leaves dry up and curl. When zeal is left to its own devices it simply consumes, until only one idea is left. Without others to tend it, that idea will become poison to itself, will cease to grow, and will wither the soul it belongs to."
"I see what you mean. So what is the best way to tend to it?"
Wuoshi "There is no best way. The way that I choose though is through Tunare's teachings. For instance, there are some plants struggling to survive – every day for weeks now, I travel to the stream, take water into my decanter, and water these wretched things, so that one day, they may bloom and be strong enough to live without my help."
"A dragon watering plants?"
Wuoshi "Unlike others, there is nothing beneath me. That mindset is dangerous, for even little things have worth, and may one day grow into a very big thing. Kerafyrm was once a small thing, and now look at him. I will do this until Tunare takes me to her side, as no one else understands their importance."
"I see, where are these plants? I would like to see them."
Wuoshi "They are a little ways over there. If you go, would you take this and water them for me? You can travel in my footsteps, child. Not many get to say that!"
"It would be my pleasure, Wuoshi. I'll be back when I am done."

"Hail, Wuoshi"
Wuoshi "How do my wayward plants fare?"
"As well as can be expected. They are watered for another day at least."
Wuoshi "That warms my heart. The repetition of action can be a soothing thing."
"So I've been wondering, and pardon me if I overstep, but if you follow Tunare, how is it that you have not been called to the Plane of Growth?"
Wuoshi "Ah, this is a good question, you overstep nothing. The gods have yet to look toward Ethernere since their absence. So much has happened since they returned from their long leave, that they are still determining how to approach it. I'm sure that ushering souls would merely serve as a distraction."
"Well, isn't that their job? Isn't helping souls find their final resting place the reason gods exist at all?"
Wuoshi "It is a task they have, and an important one, but not so important as to put their very being at risk. They are in council as to find an answer to the existential threat Kerafyrm poses. "
"Why don't they just come and unmake him? They are gods, and Kerafyrm is just a dragon."
Wuoshi "Just a dragon. I have never heard such understatement used in my long life. Things are never as simple as they seem, dear child. Beyond Kerafyrm being Kerafyrm, he has the power of the Godslayer, and that changes things drastically. Rallos was an unfortunate example of acting without considering."
"What do you mean?"
Wuoshi "He left the council, and upon doing so, perished, as no god has ever perished before."
"I see, so the dead are doomed to languish until they act?"
Wuoshi "I am still here, as evidence of that. I would not call it ‘languishing' though. I have managed to keep busy, until Tunare calls me. If I had been whisked off to the Plane of Growth, who would have defended Vesspyr from the Harrowing Horde? "
"Wait, you've confronted them?"
Wuoshi "Yes, several times. The small isle north of us was under siege at one time. After sending the roots of Growth, the Horde had to face their antithesis, and so were defeated. They could not stand to be reminded of that which they have lost. "
"I've fought a similar fight. There was a cave on Daarspire. The cave had been invaded by Harrowing Horde, tainting the nearby waters, enraging and changing the elementals that call it home."
Wuoshi "And what did you do? Did you valiantly confront and slay the monsters?"
"I did, but their numbers constantly replenished."
Wuoshi "Horrifying! And so how did you conquer this infestation?"
"In the end, it was the Priestess of Veeshan who helped us. She provided blessed water which we used to cleanse the pool of etherflow."
Wuoshi "And victory! I do love a good tale. However, I'm afraid that this story is not yet over."
"Why not? "
Wuoshi "I've spoken before of zeal, and here is an example of why it is important we listen to the small things. A blessing is a thing of impermanence. It can be stolen with a word or a touch. The Harrowing Horde is nothing if not adaptable, and they will learn there is nothing to fear from the blessing of Veeshan. "
"So their corruption will return? "
Wuoshi "If it hasn't already. We must introduce something into the environment to change it, to make it unpalatable to the Horde. Something that will grow, and persist and remind the Horde that they do not belong here."
"I see, so we must tend to them like we tend to the rest of our garden."
Wuoshi "You learn! Again, the small things can grow to be very big things indeed. Go, gather the Tunare water plants here. Be careful when uprooting them, and then transport them to the pool of etherflow on Daarspire. The plants will not want to be moved, so be gentle. Or not."
"And then what? They will grow and the Horde will just leave? Won't that take too long?"
Wuoshi "These plants are of Tunare. They know what they must do, what their purpose in this world is. They will take care of things, and most importantly, they will grow. You will be surprised!"
"Then this is something that I will do! I will return when I'm finished, Wuoshi."

"Hail, Wuoshi"
Wuoshi "And yet again, our hero returns. Successfully, I hope!"
"It's true, the plants took root, cleansing the waters completely. I've never seen anything like it."
Wuoshi "And so..."
"The small things are important to tend to."
Wuoshi "I could not have said it better myself. This has been a most enlightening interaction, Lest. I appreciate you taking time to spend with a lost, befuddled dragon such as myself. "
"We say our farewells then?"
Wuoshi "For now. I have much to think on, plants to water, leaves to rake. If you were to drop by from time to time to keep me company, we will chat until the next sunset. Until then, be well."
